Building Blog Continued

I finally got the round neck resonator strung up and it sounds like it should.  I have not had an expert play it yet so will hold off on final setup until then.  Dan Mahar should be coming up to pick it up this week so we’ll find out if it’s really up to snuff. It   looks good though.

My latest Parlor is finished and is at The Podium now.   I used hide glue on this one and it  definitely sounds better than my last.  It’s probably my favorite instrument so far.  There are pictures on their web site and hopefully a sound clip soon

They’re Back !

August 2008

Work continues on an Italian spruce/Rosewood OM and a Rosewood/Lutz Dred.  Pictures soon.

September 25th

Well the Italian Spruce OM is in finish.  Never did get any good pictures.  It should be at The Podium in November.  I just finished up the Rosewood/Lutz Dred and it should go to finish next week.  It is for Dr. Alex Fondak.  It has a Brazilian headstock veneer and heelcap and EIRW binding.

Next builds will be a Rosewood/Sitka size 2 Parlor  and a Mahogany/Red Spruce OM

October 30

Just finished setting up an Italian Spruce/Rosewood OM for The Podium.  My first with Italian.  It seemed soft like Englemann and more flexible than Sitka or Lutz so I left the top a little thicker.  It really has a distinct sound.  Very full and beautiful but without the edge of some of my Lutz OMs

I really like it and think it should be a great fingerstyle box.  It should be at The Podium next week.

I’ll definitely build more with Italian.   This could very well be my favorite OM so far, at least to my ear.

I am currently pretty far along on a Mahogany/Sitka  OM and a Rosewood/Lutz Parlor.

just closing the box on both.  they will probably wind up at the Podium as well.  I am working with Cedar Creek cases for a custom model for my parlor which is pretty close to a Martin size 2  My shop is pretty full right now.
