June 2009

Quite a bit of stuff going on.  I’ve got two Mahogany OMs in construction.  I plan to make these similar to the 201Ks.  They will have a little simpler trim and sell at a lower price.  One is a Venetian cutaway.    The tops are Sitka and have a nice tap tone so I think these will be great sounding guitars.

I’ve always had to clear off a bench for setup when instruments come out of  finish.  I’m usually building as well so it gets in the way.  I finally built a setup bench with some cheap kitchen base units.  I put tool boxes at each end so they keep stuff off the bench that could scratch a finished guitar.  I’m currently gluing the bridge on my Rosewood/Sitka 210K Dred.  It should be out the door in early July.  The 201K OM is still in finish.

My friend and mentor  Marty Reynolds at The Podium made me a “Thingy”.  It’s a device for nut and saddle duplication that is brilliant in it’s simplicity and looks.  Thanks Marty!

I just got an old oven and will be baking tops to improve stability from now on.  Taylor and Collings are doing it and the data I have heard sounds quite promising for stabilizing wood that has been more recently cut.  More later.  I’ve got the two Hog OM’s to complete, get the 201K Dred out the door and set up the 201K OM  when it gets back from finish.  Looks like a couple of commissions in the works so I’ll be busy for a while.  More later.
